Description
Treathay Fexofenadine 120mg – 30 Tablets
Treathay Fexofenadine 120mg Tablets are a non-drowsy antihistamine used to relieve the symptoms of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) in adults and children aged 12 years and over. They help to ease common symptoms such as sneezing, a runny or blocked nose, and itchy, watery eyes.
⸻
How It Works
Fexofenadine works by blocking histamine H1 receptors in the body. Histamine is a natural chemical released during an allergic reaction that causes symptoms like sneezing and itching. By blocking its effects, fexofenadine helps to reduce these uncomfortable symptoms without causing the drowsiness associated with older antihistamines.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and children aged 12 years and over should take one 120mg tablet once daily, preferably taken in the morning. Swallow the tablet whole with water, and avoid taking it with fruit juices such as apple, orange, or grapefruit juice, as these may reduce how well the medicine is absorbed. Do not exceed the stated dose. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Fexofenadine hydrochloride 120mg per tablet
⸻
Possible Side Effects
Like all medicines, fexofenadine can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Common side effects may include:
• Headache
• Drowsiness (less common than with older antihistamines)
• Nausea
• Dizziness
• Dry mouth
• Fatigue
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
Do not take Treathay Fexofenadine 120mg Tablets if any of the following apply to you:
• You are allergic to fexofenadine hydrochloride or any other ingredient in this product
• You are under 12 years of age
• You have severe kidney problems (unless advised by a doctor)
• You are currently taking certain antacids containing aluminium and magnesium hydroxide (which can reduce fexofenadine absorption)
⸻
Interactions
Fexofenadine may interact with certain medicines and foods. Fruit juices such as apple, orange, and grapefruit juice can significantly reduce the absorption of fexofenadine — take with water only. Antacids containing aluminium and magnesium hydroxide should not be taken within 2 hours of fexofenadine. Some medicines, including erythromycin (an antibiotic) and ketoconazole (an antifungal), may increase fexofenadine levels in the blood. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
The safety of fexofenadine during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been fully established. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy or whilst breastfeeding unless a doctor has specifically advised it. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
Alcohol is not known to interact directly with fexofenadine. However, as alcohol can itself cause drowsiness, combining it with any antihistamine, even a non-drowsy one, may increase the risk of feeling tired or less alert. It is advisable to drink alcohol with caution whilst taking this medicine.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Fexofenadine is classified as a non-drowsy antihistamine and is less likely to impair your ability to drive compared to older antihistamines. However, a small number of people may still experience dizziness or drowsiness. If you are affected in this way, do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how this medicine affects you.
⸻
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the tablets in their original packaging. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
