Description
Movicol-Half Powder Lemon & Lime – 30 Sachets
Movicol-Half Powder Lemon & Lime is a laxative medicine used to treat constipation, including chronic (long-term) constipation and faecal impaction (a build-up of hardened stool). It comes in a convenient half-strength sachet format with a pleasant lemon and lime flavour, making it easier to take the right dose for your needs.
⸻
How It Works
Each sachet contains macrogol 3350 (also known as polyethylene glycol), which works by drawing water into the bowel and softening the stool, making it easier to pass. The added electrolytes — potassium chloride, sodium chloride, and sodium hydrogen carbonate — help to replace salts that may be lost during treatment, keeping your body’s fluid balance in check.
⸻
Directions for Use
Each sachet should be dissolved in 62.5 ml of water and stirred until fully dissolved before drinking. For constipation in adults and children aged 12 and over, the usual dose is 2 to 4 sachets per day, taken in divided doses. For faecal impaction in adults, up to 8 sachets per day may be used as directed. Movicol-Half is not recommended for children under 12 years unless advised by a doctor. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
Each sachet contains:
• Macrogol 3350 — 6.563 g
• Sodium chloride — 175.4 mg
• Sodium hydrogen carbonate — 89.3 mg
• Potassium chloride — 46.6 mg
⸻
Possible Side Effects
Like all medicines, Movicol-Half can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them. Common side effects include:
• Bloating or a feeling of fullness
• Stomach cramps or discomfort
• Nausea
• Diarrhoea (especially if the dose is too high)
• Wind (flatulence)
• Headache
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
Do not use Movicol-Half if you:
• Are allergic to macrogol 3350 or any of the other ingredients
• Have a bowel obstruction (a blockage in your intestine)
• Have a perforated bowel or a condition that puts you at risk of bowel perforation
• Have Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, or toxic megacolon
• Are unable to swallow safely or are at risk of inhaling liquids
• Are under 12 years of age (unless under medical supervision)
⸻
Interactions
Movicol-Half is not known to have significant interactions with most medicines. However, because it increases the volume of fluid in the bowel, it could theoretically affect the absorption of other medicines taken at the same time — it is generally advisable to take other medicines separately. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Movicol-Half is generally considered to have a low risk of absorption into the body, meaning systemic exposure is minimal. However, clinical data in pregnancy and breastfeeding is limited. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no known interaction between Movicol-Half and alcohol. However, alcohol can contribute to dehydration, which may worsen constipation, so it is advisable to drink plenty of water and moderate your alcohol intake while being treated for constipation.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Movicol-Half does not cause drowsiness and is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. You can carry out these activities as normal while taking this medicine.
⸻
Storage
Store Movicol-Half below 25°C in a dry place. Once dissolved in water, the solution should be used within 6 hours. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
